Dorset House is clean and quiet and in a good location--exactly what my friend and I were hoping for. We only stayed one night, but I would definitely stay there again and would definitely recommend it to other travelers who are looking for somewhere nice to stay instead of a haven for obnoxious, drunk co-eds.

This is The Place to stay, the best hostel I ever have stayed at anywhere in the world. Quite and nice to relax between the sightseeing. Big dorm rooms with some very nice beds (no bunks), very clean and well equipped kitchen, just a very well run hostel. EXCELLENT

No doubt the best hostel Ive ever stayed in, and for the past 7 months of travelling - Ive stayed in lots of hostels. Very cosy, nice staff, nice kitchen and very charming. Not so far to walk to the nearest free shuttle bus stop and in a quiet neighbourhood. Definitely not a party hostel, but that didnt matter to me. Perfect with the free Internet. Would love to stay here again. I really miss this place actually, haha. This is THE PLACE to stay in Christchurch

it was a very nice, lovely, cozy hostel with big bedrooms. seperate bathrooms (so you have your privacy). every room was very clean. lovely garden, where you can sit and relax. kitchen doesnt close at nights.

Spent three nights at Dorset House in one of their single rooms. At $55 per night, this was a fantastic deal. The house is full of character and facilities very good (internet, pool table, very well equipped kitchen). The staff are very helpful too. The park is at the end of the street and you can walk into town in about 10 minutes. I would definitely recommend this as an outstanding (budget) and quiet place to stay.

Great hostel, very spacious with great facilities. All rooms including kitchen had everything we needed and an added bonus in the bedrooms were electric blankets. The staff we really friendly and helpful and nothing was too much hassle. Really nice park across the road and the town centre was a 20 min walk away or the free shuttle bus was five minutes up the road. Very comfortable stay with the added bonus of free wifi.

I would definitely recommend this place to couples looking for a peaceful spot outside the central hub and for those who are on a budget but still want somewhere decent. Lovely communal lounge also, with a pool table, books and games.

Well, I arrived in the backpackers a few hours ago after a delayed flight from Melbourne and several hours of dossing about only to find that the staff had left an envelope with my key inside – perfect. Opened the door to my room and was pleasantly surprised by the fact that I have a double bed. This backpackers is small, homely, neat, compact - and for the price, most definitely worth it. Also, my room, though not huge, is absolutely perfect for me - the area the Backpackers is in is a quiet area but yet still close enough to the city to have a choice of party or relaxing. Am going to recommend Dorset House Backpackers to my friends when I get back to Australia and even spread the word further than the Southern Hemisphere… I have travelled a lot, have paid good hard earned money for some awful places and Dorset House Backpackers is not one of them - its a pleasure to stay here - I keep thinking my mum will knock on the door offering me a cup of tea.

We stayed at Dorset house twice during our trip to NZ, when we first arrived and also at the end of our trip. The facilities are basic but everything you should need for a short stay. The room, bathrooms and kitchens were very clean. The staff very very friendly and helped us with tourist information too.

I thought this was a really nice hostel - bags of character, a nice location - slightly further out of town compared to others but next to Hagley Park which made a very pleasant walk into Christchurch centre. Very clean, a comfy bed, well equiped kitchen and incredibly helpful staff. Its not party central - but I wasnt looking for that in the places I stayed.

If you dont mind a 10 mins walk in to the city, this is the perfect place! The house is cosy, bathrooms extremely clean (but they could have been more warmed up), dorms quite spacious and with comfy beds, good kitchen... Lovely!

A really chilled, relaxing place to stay with friendly/helpful staff. Although not in the city centre, there are some great cafes nearby and the free shuttle bus is only a 10 minute walk away plus the no.29 airport bus stops just around the corner. Highly recommended in fact I am going to stay there again in 2 weeks time

Lovely comfortable hostel. Had booked a single room -- got given a double, with my own TV. Felt like a hotel (apart from not being en-suite). Nice and handy for the centre (fifteen-minute walk to Cathedral Square), friendly staff and lovely living room/TV room with pool table.

This is more like a grand country manor than a backpackers. The rooms are great, no bunks! I was really sad to leave as i could have spent weeks there hanging out with all the other friendly travelers! By far the best hostel i have been to, if you are staying in Christchurch then Dorset House is a must.
